It could be a clip from a television documentary of the People's Republic of Poland. Fanaticism, hardness, complete dedication. Close-up of a worker's face: furrowed, with one of the mustaches so popular in the seventies and eighties. Work is done with dedication, without laziness, although the altered rhythm of the hammer might be surprising. The following images reveal the convention of the filmed situation: The worker's hammer strikes the air, he himself stands in a rectangle painted on the floor. The factory hall (where the action takes place) is absolutely authentic, with a strong symbolic meaning. It is the hall of the Gdansk shipyard. The production lies between documentary and video art.
